My Calling

About Lehlohonolo Mazindo
I found myself asking questions that extended beyond behaviour and circumstances. Why do intelligent people repeatedly make decisions that work against their own interests? Why do some people emerge from adversity with remarkable resilience while others remain imprisoned by experiences that happened years earlier? Why do relationships flourish in some seasons and fracture in others? Why do capable leaders struggle under pressure? Why do people who appear successful often carry silent emotional burdens that few people ever see?
Our Vision
Those questions eventually became more than intellectual curiosity. They became the foundation of my life’s work.
Our Goals
Over the years, I have come to appreciate that human beings cannot be understood through simplistic explanations. We are shaped by our families, our relationships, our cultures, our successes, our disappointments, our beliefs, our environments and the meanings we attach to our experiences. Every life is a complex interaction between what has happened to us and the choices we continue to make in response.

For this reason, I have never been interested merely in solving problems. I have always been interested in understanding people.

My Professional Journey

My professional journey spans more than two decades of service across counselling, mental health, psychosocial support, leadership development, executive coaching, higher education, mentorship, organisational development and public education.
Throughout this journey, I have worked in counselling rooms with individuals and families navigating some of life’s most challenging experiences. I have supervised and lectured students preparing to enter the helping professions. I have partnered with organisations seeking to strengthen leadership and employee wellbeing. I have spoken to audiences ranging from intimate professional groups to national platforms. I have contributed to public conversations through radio, television and digital media, helping to make psychological knowledge more accessible to the broader community.
Today, I serve as the International Head of Mental Health and Psychosocial Services at I CAN Leadership Institute Africa, under the leadership and mentorship of Dr David Molapo. This role reflects my belief that leadership development and mental health should never be separated. Every organisation is ultimately shaped by the psychological health, emotional maturity and relational capacity of the people who lead it.
Each stage of my professional journey has reinforced one enduring lesson: meaningful transformation always begins with the person.

What Makes My Approach Different

Problems change throughout life. Identity, however, influences how we respond to every problem we encounter. Until we understand the beliefs, assumptions and patterns that shape our thinking, we often continue repeating familiar cycles despite our best intentions.
At the same time, I remain firmly committed to ethical practice, evidence-informed interventions and professional accountability. Genuine wisdom is not achieved by replacing science with opinion or by allowing conviction to override evidence. It is achieved by understanding where different forms of knowledge complement one another while remaining faithful to the standards of one’s profession.
This understanding has shaped a professional approach that integrates psychological science, leadership development, African wisdom, spirituality where appropriate, and lived experience. I do not regard these perspectives as competing sources of knowledge. Rather, I believe each contributes something valuable to understanding the richness and complexity of human experience.

The Philosophy That Guides My Work

Over time, my professional philosophy has become increasingly clear.

Every meaningful transformation rests upon three interconnected foundations.

About Lehlohonolo Mazindo

Beyond Professional Practice

Although counselling remains central to my work, it is only one expression of a much broader mission.
Although these platforms appear different, they are united by one purpose:

Helping people heal, grow, lead and thrive.
Through Lehlohonolo Mazindo Psychological Services, I provide professional counselling, executive coaching and leadership development.
Through the Mazindo Mentorship Academy, I help individuals discover their identity, strengthen their character and develop the capacity required for meaningful leadership and contribution.
Through my book, Think or Shrink: Explore Your Mind to Expand Your Life, I invite readers to examine the relationship between their thinking, their identity and the quality of the lives they create.
Through keynote speaking, media engagement and organisational consulting, I contribute to important conversations surrounding mental health, leadership, relationships, personal development and the future of human flourishing.

Looking Ahead

The work I do today forms part of a much larger vision.
I believe Africa has much to contribute to the global conversation about psychology, leadership, identity and human flourishing. Our continent possesses rich traditions of wisdom, resilience and community that deserve thoughtful dialogue with contemporary psychological science. My hope is to contribute to that conversation through professional practice, teaching, writing, research, mentorship and public engagement.
My aspiration has never been simply to build a successful career.
It has been to build a body of work that continues to serve people long after individual conversations have ended.
If the ideas shared through my counselling, teaching, speaking, writing and mentorship help people understand themselves more deeply, lead more wisely, strengthen their relationships and contribute more meaningfully to the lives of others, then I will consider my work worthwhile.

An Invitation

Whether you are seeking professional support, organisational development, leadership growth, a keynote speaker or simply a deeper understanding of yourself, I invite you to begin the conversation.
Transformation does not begin when life becomes easier.
It begins when we become more intentional about understanding ourselves and the choices that shape our future.
I would be honoured to walk that journey with you.
